Your Tour Itinerary – Two Day Outlander Tour from Inverness:

Day One: Culloden and the Standing Stones; walk the path of the Jacobites...

The Standing Stones and prehistoric burial cairns were built 4000 years ago and include the famous ‘split stone’. It’s these stones near Culloden Battlefield, where the sounds of battle would have been heard on that fateful day when Jamie and Claire said goodbye.

Culloden Battlefield – Andy will guide you around the Battlefield, sharing with you how the last pitched battle was fought on British soil. See the gravestone for the Frasers who tragically fell on 16 April 1746 along with many other Clansmen. You can browse through the Culloden Battlefield Indoor Museum, watch a 360 degree surround movie of the Battle as if you were standing between the two sides. If you survive that, then you can enjoy the wonderful shopping experience at the Visitor Centre.

Jacobite Weapons Demonstration – We will welcome you into our Culloden Home where Andy will demonstrate how the weapons were used in battle. We have an extensive collection – Targes, Lochaber Axe, Basket Hilt Broadswords, Claymore, Blunderbuss, Flintlock Muskets, Flintlock Pistols, Powder Horn, Dirk and the Sgian Dubh.

18th Century Antiques – we also have an extensive collection of 18th Century Antiques, Books, Parchments and much more, including a very beautiful Apothecary and some rare Jacobite glasses. We will spend some time sharing our collection with you in our Culloden home. In addition to real antiques, we also have several reproduction 18th Century antiques which featured in Outlander and Blood of my Blood, including bottles and drinking-glasses that were used in both series. They even include Brian Fraser’s (Jamie’s Father) Viking Sword found hidden under the bed at Lallybroch.

After this, you have the choice of including either, or both, of the two options below at no additional cost.

OPTIONAL – Traditional Celtic Handfasting – if you would love to renew your marriage vows in the Highlands of Scotland, then we can include this Ceremony in our home for no additional cost. Let us know when you book, and we can send you instructions on how to make your unique Handfasting Cord, which is all you will need to bring with you. The Ceremony takes around 15 minutes and includes drinking from the Scottish Quaich.

OPTIONAL – Group Past Life Regression – if you’d love to explore your past life memories, then we can carry out a group Past Life Regression. There are many who feel a deep connection to particular places, yet are unable to explain why. They find that exploring their past lives answers many questions for them. For information on what Past Life Regression is click here. You are welcome to download our free Past Lives Clues Workbook, which may help you begin to join the dots. The Regression lasts around 25 minutes and is carried out with everyone in the group (if one or more members of your group prefers not to take part, then we ask them to bring headphones so they can do their own thing on their cell phone during this time).

Culloden House – after your visit to our home, we will take you to historic Culloden House. Bonnie Prince Charlie used Culloden House as his lodging and Headquarters prior to the fateful battle on Culloden Moor. As such, Culloden House features heavily in Outlander towards the end of series and book two. We will guide you around the gardens and outside of the House, before taking you inside to show you the history ‘hidden in plain sight’. You might be interested in reading this article and watching the short video, which recounts some of the dramatic events which took place here in the days following the Battle.

Afternoon Tea at Culloden House – you may wish to enjoy an indulgent Afternoon Tea in their magnificent Adam’s Drawing Room; a feast of cakes, pudding, scones with cream and jam, sandwiches and hot sausage rolls, all freshly prepared by their Award Winning Chef. If you would like us to reserve this for your group as part of your Outlander Experience, please let us know and we will arrange your preferred time with Culloden House. Payment can be made direct to Culloden House on the day.

Day Two: Outlander Book Locations; Clan Fraser and Mackenzie. Explore the land they walked, the homes they lived in, the towns they frequented and the places they were buried… and enjoy a wee whisky tasting at a Highland Distillery too…

Inverness, as it was in 1745 – step back in time with Diane as she takes you on a historic walking tour through the oldest street in Inverness to visit the buildings that were standing during the mid-18th century and earlier. This includes an ancient church where Jacobite prisoners were executed after the Battle. You’ll also see where the fountain (outside Mrs Bairds) stood in Inverness until 1953.

Urquhart Castle, on the banks of Loch Ness – The last of the government troops garrisoned here during the Jacobite Risings and blew up the castle when they departed. Andy will guide you through Urquhart’s iconic ruins, offering glimpses into medieval times. Here you can walk down to the shores of Loch Ness and look for the ‘Water Horse’ which entranced Claire.

Wardlaw Mausoleum – this is reputed to be the final resting place of Simon ‘The Fox’ Fraser, the 11th Lord Lovat who is Jamie Fraser’s grandfather in Outlander. We will visit the underground crypt that was said to contain his headless body, smuggled here after his execution at the Tower of London. The Mausoleum was built as a burial place and shrine to the Frasers of Lovat.

Beauly Priory – this is where Claire met Maisri, the Lovat’s Seer, in Dragonfly in Amber. We will take you on a guided tour of the Priory, sharing its incredible 800 year old history while we read the excerpts from the novel. Then we’ll show you some of the best places in Beauly for some retail therapy.

The Real ‘Lallybroch’ – the land this historic home sits upon was granted to John Mackenzie in 1637 and remained Clan Mackenzie’s for centuries thereafter. The house sits on the cusp of both Clan Mackenzie and Clan Fraser land and is known to be the original inspiration for Lallybroch. Although filming for the series was not done here, the Lallybroch that Diana Gabaldon describes in the original book is this one. Here you can enjoy lunch in their restaurant or bar if you would like to, while you savour the historic atmosphere.

Glen Ord Distillery – If you’ve come all the way to Scotland, why not enjoy a wee dram… This Award Winning Distillery was founded in the early 19th century on lands owned by the Mackenzie family for 600 years. You can end your touring day with a very unique whisky tasting if you wish to (it’s one you can’t buy in any shops, other than here at the Distillery!). Andy will guide you through the art of a real Highland whisky tasting, so you can fully experience and appreciate the ‘Water of Life‘ or ‘ Uisge beatha‘. If you don’t fancy a whisky tasting, you can browse the shop, enjoy a cappuccino and explore the exhibition.
